English cricket is 'institutionally' racist: Rafiq

In a parliamentary inquiry, Azeem Rafiq accused English cricket of being ‘institutionally’ racist. He accused his former club Yorkshire CCC of ‘inhuman’ treatment after his son was still-born in 2017, and of the use of racist language ‘constantly’ during his stint.

He added that he had lost his career to racism – a ‘horrible feeling’, but is hopeful of a ‘massive change in five years' time’ after speaking out.

‘I was not going to let this go, no matter how much damage it causes me - I was determined to become a voice for the voiceless,’ Rafiq told the Digital, Culture, Media and Sport select committee. ‘All I wanted was an acceptance, an apology, an understanding, and let's try and work together to ensure it never happens again.’
