Durham rope in Petersen
Durham have signed Keegan Petersen for the 2022 County Championship. He will play seven games for them between April and June. Petersen missed the ongoing Test series in New Zealand after testing positive for Covid-19. He rose to prominence after playing a crucial role in setting up a Test series win for South Africa against India.
'It's exciting to join a County like Durham and I look forward to linking up with the squad and having a successful contribution during my time in the north east,' said Petersen.
Azhar to replace Wade at Worcestershire
Worcestershire named Azhar Ali as a replacement for Matthew Wade for County Championship 2022. Wade had to withdraw his name after being acquired by Gujarat Titans for IPL 2022.
'I think it is a fantastic signing and Alex Gidman (Head Coach) is delighted. Azhar should be available for all 14 County Championship matches. His record in Test cricket is outstanding, and he offers great experience and is of high quality,' said Worcestershire chairperson Paul Pridgeon.
Manish, Rahane score centuries on Day 1 of Ranji Trophy 2022
Manish Pandey scored 156 off 121 deliveries to propel Karnataka to a commanding position against Railways on Day 1 of Ranji Trophy 2021/22. K. Siddarth is unbeaten on 140 as Karnataka finished the day on 392/5.
In another game, Ajinkya Rahane (108*) and Sarfaraz Khan (121*) added an unbroken 219 to lead the recovery for Mumbai after they lost three early wickets. For Saurashtra, Jaydev Unadkat was the most economical bowler, and he also picked a wicket.
In the match between Delhi and Tamil Nadu, Yash Dhull struck 118 in 150 balls on debut. Jonty Sidhu then scored 71 to help Delhi finish the day on 291/7.
Ishan Porel (4-40) and Mukesh Kumar (3-33) helped Bengal bowl out Baroda for 181. Bengal then lost Abhimanyu Easwaran early, and will resume Day 2 on 24/1.
Eden Apple Tom picked four wickets, U. Manukrishnan three, and S. Sreesanth two, as Kerala bowled out Meghalaya for 148. Kerala ended on 205/1, courtesy Rohan Kunnummal who struck a century, and Ponnam Rahul is batting on 91.
Henry's seven-wicket haul puts New Zealand on top
Matt Henry claimed 7-23 at his home ground of Christchurch to bowl out South Africa for 95 on Day 1 of the first Test match. Zubayr Hamza top-scored for South Africa with 25.
Duanne Olivier took two wickets, and Marco Jansen took one, as New Zealand finished on 116/3. Henry Nicholls is currently batting on 37 and Neil Wagner on 2.
