2nd ODI: Sri Lanka fined for slow over rate against India
Sri Lanka were fined 20 percent of their match fees for maintaining a slow over rate in the second ODI against India on 20 July, in Colombo. It also cost Sri Lanka a point in the Super League.
Ranjan Madugalle, ICC Match Referee, imposed the sanction after Dasun Shanaka’s men was left an over short of the in-time allowance. Shanaka pleaded guilty and accepted the proposed sanction.
Having taken an unassailable 2-0 lead, India will again meet Sri Lanka on 23 July, for the third and final ODI at the same venue.
Sundar ruled out for England Tests with a finger injury
Washington Sundar has been ruled out of the five-match England Test series with a finger injury. A BCCI source confirmed the development to ANI: ‘Sundar has hurt his finger and will take around six weeks to be 100 percent. He won't be taking part in the Test matches.’
Gill had suffered a shin injury and returned to India on 20 July. Avesh Khan, one of India’s four standby pace-bowling options, has fractured a finger in their ongoing warm-up game against County Select XI, in Durham. However, he is still under observation of the BCCI’s medical team.
The BCCI is yet to announce replacements for Gill or Sundar.
Mushfiqur to miss Australia T20Is
Mushfiqur Rahim will miss the five-match T20I series against Australia next month, confirmed BCB. The decision came after he failed to enter the 10-day quarantine ahead of the series, which is mandatory for every player before joining the bubble from outside.
Mushfiqur returned to Bangladesh to be with his parents, and missed the Zimbabwe limited-overs series in the process. He had to enter the quarantine by 22 July to be eligible for selection.
As per Cricbuzz, BCB had tried to convince CA to reduce the quarantine period for Mushfiqur’s availability. However, CA refused the proposal.
Dernbach to move from Surrey after 19 seasons
Jade Dernbach will leave Surrey at the end of the season to pursue other playing options. Dernbach, who only featured twice for the club since 2019, went on loan to Derbyshire, where he took five wickets in two Vitality T20 Blast games.
Since his debut in 2003, Dernbach has helped Surrey lift the CB40 trophy in 2011 and win the County Championship in 2018. He claimed 583 wickets from 331 matches for Surrey across formats.
Between 2011 and 2014, Dernbach donned England’s jersey 58 times, all in limited-overs cricket. He took 31 wickets in ODIs and 39 in T20Is.
