Namibia enter Super 12, beat Ireland in virtual knockout
Namibia sealed a spot in the Super 12 of the Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 after registering an eight-wicket win against Ireland in Sharjah. They restricted Ireland to 125/8, and got the job done with nine balls to spare.
David Wiese (2-22, 28* in 14 balls) was adjudged Player of the Match twice in three days to script history for Namibia. He was ably assisted by Gerhard Erasmus (53*) and Jan Frylinck (3-21), as they joined India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, New Zealand and Scotland in Group 2.
England v India postponed Test to be held in July 2022
The postponed fifth Test between England and India will take place at Edgbaston from 1 July next year. It was due to be held at Old Trafford in September, but was called off after Covid-19 concerns in the Indian camp.
The rescheduled Test will decide the outcome of the five-match series, which India lead 2-1.
IPL teams to be allowed four retentions: Reports
As per Cricbuzz, the eight existing franchises will be allowed to retain up to four players in the upcoming IPL auction. A franchise can retain up to three Indian and two overseas players, but the total number of retentions should not exceed four.
If a franchise decides to retain four players, it will cut off around 40 to 45 percent of its buying purse, which is set to be INR 90 crores. The existing teams are unlikely to be allowed the Right to Match (RTM) cards at the auction.
Sri Lanka bamboozle Netherlands, top Group A
A disciplined bowling performance by Sri Lanka set up an eight-wicket win against the Netherlands in the final Group A match of the Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. They wrapped up the Netherlands for just 44 in 10 overs, and chased down the target with 77 balls to spare.
Lahiru Kumara and Wanindu Hasaranga claimed three wickets each, while Maheesh Theekshana had two to his name. Kusal Perera remained unbeaten on 33 off 24 balls to see off the target inside eight overs.
With the victory, Sri Lanka ended Round 1 as Group A topper, and will be joined by second-placed Namibia in the Super 12s.
