Lauren Down will miss the forthcoming World Cup after sustaining a thumb fracture while fielding in the fifth ODI against India. Georgia Plimmer has been named her replacement. New Zealand will play two warm-up matches before squaring off against West Indies in the tournament opener.
'Quite simply, the entire squad is absolutely gutted for Lauren,' said New Zealand Women head coach Bob Carter on Friday. 'She's a very popular member of the group and it's fair to say the team were quite emotional when we got the news she was out of the tournament.'
