ICC announce Men's Test Player of Year nominations
R. Ashwin, Joe Root, Kylie Jamieson, and Dimuth Karunaratne have been nominated for ICC men's Test Player of 2021. Root scored 1,708 runs and Karunaratne 902, while Ashwin has 52 wickets (and counting), and Jamieson 27, including seven in the inaugural World Test Championship final.
India ahead by 146 runs after Day 3
Mohammed Shami completed 200 wickets in Test as his 5-44 helped India bowl out South Africa for 197. Temba Bavuma got 52 of these runs and Quinton de Kock 34. India then lost Mayank Agarwal, to Marco Jansen, to close the day on 16/1, ahead by 146 runs.
Earlier in the day, India went for quick runs, and were bowled out before lunch. K.L. Rahul top scored with 123, while Lungi Ngidi took six wickets and Kagiso Rabada three.
Australia retain the Ashes with an innings and 14 runs win
Debutant Scott Boland's 6-7 helped Australia wrap up the game and series in the first session of Day 3 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. England were bowled out for 68 to lose the game by an innings and 14 runs. Mitchell Starc also claimed three wickets. Barring Joe Root and Ben Stokes, none of the batters managed to touch the double-digit figure.
Zimbabwe to tour Sri Lanka in 2022
Zimbabwe will tour Sri Lanka next year for three ODIs, starting 16 January, as confirmed by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC). All three games will be played in Kandy. After the ODI series, Sri Lanka will tour to Australia for five T20Is against the hosts.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka's head coach Mickey Arthur resigned from his post to join Derbyshire. Earlier, the SLC appointed Mahela Jayawardene as a consultant coach for all three formats.
