Australia vs India: Day-Night Women’s Test ends in a draw
The one-off Day-Night Women’s Test between Australia and India ended in a stalemate at the Carrara Oval.
Resumed the final day on 143/4, Australia added 98 before declaring on 241/9. India then moved to 135/3 in 37 overs, and asked Australia to chase 272 in 32 overs. Australia were 36/2 when the players shook hands.
With the result, both sides have taken two points from this match. Though Australia lead the multi-format series 6-4 after beating India in the ODI leg 2-1. India now have to win all three T20Is to win the multi-format series.
Bangalore beat Punjab, reach Playoffs
Royal Challengers Bangalore became the third team after Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals to qualify for the IPL 2021 Playoffs with a six-run win against Punjab Kings in Match 48. They posted 164/7, Glenn Maxwell scoring a 33-ball 57 and Devdutt Padikkal a 38-ball 40.
In reply, K.L. Rahul and Mayank Agarwal added 91 for the opening wicket, but Punjab struggled to get going once they fell. They finished on 158/6.
Gill stars in Kolkata win
A 51-ball 57 from Shubman Gill led the way for Kolkata Knight Riders to register a six-wicket win against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Match 49 of IPL 2021 at Dubai International Stadium. Riding on his knock, Kolkata chased down 116 with two balls to spare. Dinesh Karthik also scored an unbeaten 18 off 12 balls to make that happen.
Earlier, Hyderabad struggled to get going against disciplined Kolkata bowlers, led by Sunil Narine. They only managed 115/8 after opting to bat, thanks to Abdul Samad’s 18-ball 25 and Kane Williamson’s 21-ball 26.
Hyderabad are now guaranteed the last spot in this season. However, Umran Malik debuted for them in this match. He bowled the fastest ball by an Indian in the season. It clocked 150.06 kmph, surpassing Mohammed Siraj’s 145.97.
Men’s T20 World Cup 2021: Venues to allow 70 percent capacity for fans
The upcoming Men's T20 World Cup, to be held in Oman and the UAE, will have 70 percent audience capacity for the respective venues throughout the tournament, as confirmed by ICC on 3 October.
With that, the tournament will become the largest-scale event held in the UAE since the Covid-19 pandemic. Tickets are already up for grabs for games.
