South Africa finish Day 1 on 278/5
Fifties from Dean Elgar, Keegan Petersen, and Temba Bavuma propelled South Africa to 278/5 on Day 1 of the second Test match, at St George's Park. Khaled Ahmed got Saral Erwee early, but Elgar and Petersen added 81 for the second wicket.
Elgar scored 70 in 89 balls, Petersen made 64, and Ryan Rickelton 42. For Bangladesh Taijul Islam claimed three wickets.
Stokes ruled out for a month
Ben Stokes will have to wait for another month before returning to Durham for the ongoing English domestic season. Stokes was heavily utilised by England in their Test series in West Indies, and recently underwent a scan for his left knee.
I think it was pretty obvious that I was struggling with my knee a bit out in the Caribbean,' Stokes said. 'At the moment there is no training. So I will go and get the scans and then we can find out what's going on, and then hopefully can make a plan from there.'
India to play two warm-up games on England tour
India will play T20s against Derbyshire and Northamptonshire on their upcoming tour to England. Both matches will coincide with a rescheduled Test match between India and England. The Test match, slated to be held in Old Trafford, will be the fifth Test match of last unfinished Test year's unfinished Test series. The match had to be postponed due to Covid-19 concerns. Following that, India will play a two-match T20I series against Ireland.
Gujarat beat Punjab by six wickets
With 12 needed off the last two balls, Rahul Tewatia struck two sixes off Odean Smith to win the game for Gujarat Titans. This was their third successive win of the Indian Premier League 2022, set up by a brilliant innings from Shubman Gill, who kept them in the chase with his 59-ball 96.
Earlier in the game, Liam Livingstone slammed 64 off 27 balls for Punjab, while Rashid Khan (3-19) was the pick of the Gujarat bowlers.
