The Knights lifted the CSA Provincial T20 Cup 2021 title after beating the Dolphins by seven runs in the final in Kimberley on 22 October. They posted 176/5 and restricted the Dolphins to 169/6.
Asked to bat, the Knights lost Raynard van Tonder without scoring in the opening over, bowled by Daryn Dupavillon. Patrick Kruger and Rilee Rossouw (28 in 18 balls) held the fort, adding 37 in 32 balls before the latter was undone by Thando Ntini (2-46) at the stroke of Powerplay. The Knights were 37/2 at that point.
The breakthrough partnership of the contest began after that, between Kruger (61 in 53) and Pite van Biljon (42 in 25). They stitched 86 for the third wicket to lay the platform for the others. At No. 5, Farhaan Behardien scored an unbeaten 15-ball 29.
Coming to chase, the Dolphins got off to a poor start, losing Keegan Petersen and Marques Ackerman inside three overs. Khaya Zondo (43 in 28) and Sarel Erwee (27) steadied the ship, forging 51 in 38 balls. Alfred Mothoa (4-1-27-1) gave the Knights the much-needed wicket in the 10th over when Erwee holed him out to Kruger.
Bryce Parsons (35 in 31) added 52 with Jason Smith (36* in 23) for the fifth wicket, but struggled to get going. As a result, the Dolphins fell seven runs short of the target. With 3-30, Migael Pretorius was the pick of the Knights bowlers.
Brief scores: Knights 176/5 in 20 overs (Kruger 61; Dupavillon 2-24) beat Dolphins 169/6 in 20 overs (Zondo 43; Pretorius 3-30) by 7 runs.
