Let us take a look at some of the important developments from the cricketing world that took place on 23 June.
New Zealand clinch inaugural WTC mace
Kane Williamson struck a half-century and forged an unbeaten 96-run partnership for the third wicket with Ross Taylor to take New Zealand across the finishing line in the final of WTC. Earlier, India were skittled out for 170.
Resuming the day on 64/2, India suffered two early blows as both Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara were dismissed cheaply by Kyle Jamieson. Trent Boult then ran through the middle-order, claiming four wickets, including top-scorer Rishabh Pant (41).
Chasing 139, New Zealand lost their second wicket on 44, but Kane Williamson (52*) and Ross Taylor (47*) then stood firm to see off the chase.
Roy, Buttler shine, England defeat Sri Lanka by eight wickets
A dashing opening partnership between Jason Roy and Jos Buttler was enough to overpower Sri Lanka in the first T20I of the three-match series. They chased down a target of 130 runs with 17 balls remaining.
Sri Lanka’s innings never took off until a 44-ball 50 from Dasun Shanaka helped them reach a face-saving total. Both openers walked back inside the Powerplay overs, and a middle-order collapse reduced them to 79/5 in 13.1 overs.
For England, Sam Curran and Adil Rashid picked a couple of wicket apiece. Roy and Buttler then added 80 for the opening stand. Roy departed on 36, but Buttler returned unbeaten on 68.

England should withdraw from Ashes 2021, feels Vaughan
As per a report in a leading daily, the England cricketers will not be allowed to travel with their family for the Ashes tour later this year, owing to Covid-19 restrictions in Australia.
Five Test matches across five cities will be played between 8 December and 12 January. But before that, England have tours of Bangladesh and Pakistan lined up, along with the T20 World Cup.
Read reports today that England cricketers may not be able to have family members with them down under this winter .. Quite simply if they can’t they should call the Ashes off .. 4 months away from your family is totally unacceptable .. #Ashes
