Chennai win fourth IPL title

Chennai Super Kings romped to their fourth Indian Premier League title, defeating Kolkata Knight Riders by 27 runs in the final at Dubai International Stadium. Faf du Plessis won the Player of the Match award for a 59-ball 86.

Du Plessis' innings, combined with quickfire knocks from Moeen Ali and Ambati Rayudu, propelled Chennai to a challenging total of 192/3 in 20 overs. Ruturaj Gaikwad scored 32 in 27 balls to surpass K.L. Rahul and claim the Orange Cap.

For Kolkata Venkatesh Iyer and Shubman Gill added 91 for the opening stand. But Iyer's dismissal on 50 opened the game, and Gill struggled to get going. In the end they were restricted to 165/9.

Muralitharan happy to see spinners doing well in T20 cricket

Muttiah Muralitharan has lavished praise on spinners doing well in the shortest format of the game. Defending is the best form of attack in the T20I, he added, emphasising that spinners have done their job if they concede around six runs an over.

'I’m obviously delighted to see the importance that spinners have taken on in T20 cricket. It is a fast game and is meant to be a batter’s game, but the bowlers have adapted in the 18 years since the format first started in England,' he told the ICC.
