World record for Overdijk
Frederique Overdijk became the first cricketer to take a seven wickets in a T20I. Playing for Netherlands against France in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Europe Region Qualifier at Cartagena, Spain, Overdijk returned figures of 4-2-3-7 – six bowled, one leg-before.
France were bowled out for 33, a target Netherlands chased down inside four overs with nine wickets in hand.
Before Overdijk, the best figures in all T20Is belonged to Anjali Chand of Nepal Women (2.1-2-0-6), followed by Mas Elysa of Malaysia Women (4-1-3-6). The Men’s record lies with Deepak Chahar (3.2-0-7-6).
Punjab Kings sign Adil Rashid
Punjab Kings have roped in Adil Rashid to replace Jhye Richardson for the remainder of the IPL. Richardson and Riley Meredith withdrew from the UAE leg of the tournament. Rashid was the leading wicket-taker in the recently concluded The Hundred.
Rashid will join his compatriot Dawid Malan and Chris Jordan at the franchise. Punjab Kings already had two leg-spinners in Ravi Bishnoi and M. Ashwin.
Punjab Kings had earlier signed Nathan Ellis as replacement for Meredith. Ellis rose to prominence after picking up a hat-trick on his debut against Bangladesh.
Southee joins KKR
Kolkata Knight Riders have signed Tim Southee as replacement for Pat Cummins for the rest of the IPL. Cummins had pulled out of the tournament to be with his wife for the birth of their second child.
Southee’s last appearance in the IPL came in 2019, when he featured for Royal Challengers Bangalore. He went unsold in 2020, but made it to New Zealand’s squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup.
The Knight Riders currently stand seventh in the points table. They will play RCB on 20 September.
Rameez becomes new PCB chairman
Rameez Raja has been appointed as the next Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). He will replace Ehsan Mani, who, at 76, was considered too old for this post.
Rameez met Prime Minister Imran Khan on Monday, 23 August, and shared his vision for Pakistan cricket. Khan has already granted his approval for Rameez’s appointment.
Root scores his third successive century
Joe Root (121) notched his third century in three games as England have extended their lead to 345 runs by stumps on Day 3. England finished on 423/8, with Craig Overton and Ollie Robinson on the crease.
Earlier, Rory Burns (61) became the first man to fall in the day, while Haseeb Hameed (68) was beaten through the gate by Ravindra Jadeja. Dawid Malan (70) and Root then added 139 for the third wicket.
For India, Mohammed Shami got 3-87, while Mohammed Siraj and Ravindra Jadeja picked two wickets each.
