WBBL contracts for Verma, Yadav, Ghosh
Sydney Sixers have roped in Shafali Verma and Radha Yadav for the upcoming season of the WBBL. They will start their season against Melbourne Stars in the season opener, on 14 October.
Verma is the top-ranked T20I batter, and was among the most impressive performers in last year's ICC T20 World Cup 2020 in Australia. She recently played for Birmingham Phoenix in the inaugural edition of the Hundred.
Later in the day, Hobart Hurricanes signed up Richa Ghosh, which took the count of Indians in the tournament to five. Smriti Mandhana and Deepti Sharma already have Sydney Thunder contracts.
Kuldeep Yadav returns home
Kuldeep Yadav will miss the rest of the 2021 IPL after sustaining a knee injury during a practice session. He is back in India, and may also miss a part of the forthcoming domestic season.
As per PTI, Kuldeep had knee surgery in Mumbai, and will take around six months to return. He last featured for India on the Sri Lanka tour, where he played two ODIs and as many T20Is. He is going through a lean patch, and has lost his place in both India and KKR.
Moeen retires from Test cricket
Moeen Ali announced retirement from Test cricket, though he will continue to represent England in limited-overs cricket. He will be a key member of for Eoin Morgan's side in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2021.
Moeen made his Test debut in 2014. In a seven-year-long career, he has batted at every position from Nos. 1 to 9. He has five centuries, five five-wicket hauls, and even a Test hat-trick, against South Africa in 2017.
'I've enjoyed Test Cricket but that intensity can be too much sometimes and I feel like I've done enough of it and I'm happy and content with how I've done,' said Moeen.
Hyderabad register the second victory of IPL 2021
Sanju Samson's 57-ball 82 went in vain as Sunrisers Hyderabad beat Rajasthan Royals by seven wickets at the Dubai International Stadium. Hyderabad chased down 165 in 18.3 overs.
Jason Roy (60 in 48 balls) and Wriddhiman Saha got Sunrisers off a brisk start, adding 57 for the opening stand. Kane Williamson (51*) and Abhishek Sharma saw SRH home with nine balls remaining.
Inzamam-ul-Haq suffers heart attack
Inzamam-ul-Haq suffered a heart attack at his home in Lahore, and was immediately rushed to the hospital, where he underwent a successful angioplasty. Inzamam played 375 ODIs and 119 Tests for Pakistan, and was also a member of the 1992 World Cup-winning side. He is the leading run-getter for Pakistan in ODI.
