Former England captain Eoin Morgan believes that Delhi Capitals skipper David Warner is on track to become a contender for the Orange Cap in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 season. The Orange Cap is awarded to the player who scores the most runs in the tournament.
Despite Delhi's recent struggles, Warner has been consistently scoring runs, hitting his third half-century of the season against Mumbai Indians on Tuesday. However, his strike-rate of 108.51 has been a concern for the team.
Morgan, who is now an IPL expert, noted that relying solely on one player could hinder their performance and progression. He also weighed in on the importance of strike rates in T20 cricket, stating that they should be considered in the context of the game situation.
Morgan also spoke about his former team, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), and the struggles of star player Andre Russell. However, he praised the team's recent performances and the contributions of its lesser-known players.
"The most impressive aspect about them has been the performance of the players who are not the superstars in the side, and are coming out to prove a point," Morgan said.
With the IPL season in full swing, it remains to be seen if Warner can maintain his form and contend for the Orange Cap, but Morgan's endorsement will surely provide a boost for the Australian opener.
