Former England skipper and batsman Andrew Strauss has been appointed as the Cricket Committee Chairman in the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), a role which will see him driving the development of the game in the country at all levels.
The 42-year-old, who had also been honoured with Knighthood recently, stepped down as ECB’s Director of Cricket last year in order to support his wife Ruth in her battle against Cancer. Strauss was replaced by former English spinner Ashley Giles at that moment.
“The ECB have been a vital source of support over an extremely difficult year,” Strauss was quoted as saying by the BBC.
“It’s a real pleasure to return…I’m extremely passionate about developing and growing cricket in England and Wales.”
Strauss had also appointed England’s World Cup winning coach, Trevor Bayliss, during his previous stint as the Director of Cricket. He also went on to say how such an incredible summer of cricket has inspired people to take the game seriously in the country. And he is really looking forward to build on to that.
“I’ve seen first-hand how this summer of cricket has inspired more people to fall in love with the sport and I can’t wait to help build on its success,” Strauss said.
