After completely dominating the opening day of the Test match at Trent Bridge, India had a day of contrasting fortunes. In reply to England first-innings score of 183, Rohit Sharma and K.L. Rahul started brilliantly on Day 2, putting up a 97-run opening stand. However, like we often see in cricket, things changed drastically thereafter.
Within the next 15 runs, India lost four top-order batters, including Virat Kohli for a golden duck. He was caught behind off the bowling of his old nemesis James Anderson to that fourth stump – a deja vu of the 2014 series.
Some relief came India’s way when bad light stopped play after 46.1 overs. India were 125/4 at that point, with Rahul (57*) and Rishabh Pant (7*) at the crease. Following a drizzle, play was abandoned for the day.
Day 3: What to expect
Unfortunately, things do not look very encouraging. Heavy rain has been predicted throughout the day. In fact, the local met department has issued a yellow warning – a warning for floods – and advised the locals to stay indoor.
During the playing hours, there are as high as 71 percent chances of precipitation according to BBC Weather. However, after 4 PM, the chance of rain goes down to 45 to 37 percent.
Under these circumstances we will be very lucky to some play on Day 3. However, it seems highly unlikely.
Betway Fantasy Tips for The Day
– If and when play resumes, India need their lower middle order to fire. You can still back them to take the lead, but don’t expect it to be in three figures.
– Rahul has looked comfortable with his application at the crease. Back him to reach the three-figure mark.
– Anderson seems to have found his mojo back following an average outing against New Zealand. So, perhaps you can expect him to take a five-wicket haul in this innings.
