India Women needed to win the T20Is to draw the multiformat series against England Women. They stayed alive until the last match, but the eventual defeat saw them concede the series 6-10. Here is how they fared.
Smriti Mandhana: 9 (M 3 R 119 SR 142)
Mandhana had looked ominous in Northampton and Hove, and finally made a start count with a 51-ball 70 at Chelmsford. She was India’s batter of the series by some distance.
Richa Ghosh: 8 (M 3 R 28 SR 127 C 2 S 1)
Ghosh played a breezy cameo in Chelmsford, but the points are for her electric presence behind the stumps. She caught well, pulled off a freakish stumpings, ran out batters, and was generally flawless.
Poonam Yadav: 8 (M 3 W 3 Ec 6.75)
Poonam sealed the second match with some superb death bowling. While she did not have the same impact in the other two matches, she did a decent job.
Deepti Sharma: 7 (M 3 W 2 Ec 7.28 R 37 SR 86)
Brilliant in the field and accurate with the ball, Sharma was one of the stars for India. However, India are yet to find a batting position for her.
Harmanpreet Kaur: 6 (M 3 R 68 SR 128)
Kaur finally showed glimpses of return to form at the end of a quiet tour. She got out twice just when she was on the verge of cutting loose.
Sneh Rana: 6 (M 3 W 1 Ec 6.88 R 12)
Rana bowled accurately, controlling her flight throughout the innings. She probably deserves a push up the batting order.
Shafali Verma: 4 (M 3 R 48 SR 114)
Verma’s excellent 48 – in India’s only win – was sandwiched by two two-ball ducks. Her duels with Katherine Brunt and Sophie Ecclestone were among the talking points of the series.
Shikha Pandey: 4 (M 3 W 3 Ec 7.33)
Pandey bowled well, especially in the Powerplay overs, without much seam support at the other end. A middling series for her.
Harleen Deol: 2 (M 3 R 23 SR 68)
One point for Deol’s batting. One for arguably the greatest catch in the history of women’s international cricket.
Arundhati Reddy: 1 (M 3 W 1 Ec 9.57)
Reddy failed to provide the seam support Pandey needed. India might have tried Pooja Vastrakar in one of the matches.
Radha Yadav: 1 (M 3 W 1 Ec 9.67)
A rare quiet series for Radha, who is a much better bowler than those numbers suggest.
