Coming to bat in the second innings with a 103-run lead, New Zealand lost first-innings double centurion Devon Conway (23) and skipper Kane Williamson (1) before they reached 62/2 at Day 4 stumps. With that, they have extended their lead to 165.

England resumed on 111/2 after Day 3 was washed out due to rain. Skipper Joe Root (42) was dismissed on the first ball he faced. Ollie Pope (22), too, had a short stay in the middle, while Dan Lawrence and debutant ‘keeper James Bracey returned to the pavilion without scoring. England were reduced to 140/6 at that stage.
Ollie Robinson (42), on debut, added 63 runs for the seventh wicket with Burns. James Anderson (8 not out) and Burns then forged 52 more runs for the final wicket to take England to a respective total. Southee returned magnificent figures of 6-43, while Kyle Jamieson finished with 3-85.
