Prior to the ICC T20 World Cup in Australia, which begins on October 16, the Netherlands has expanded its coaching team to include former India coach Gary Kirsten and veteran Australian Dan Christian.
The Netherlands are placed in Group A of the T20 World Cup's First Round alongside the United Arab Emirates, Namibia, and Sri Lanka; to advance to the Super 12 round of the competition, they must finish in the top two of their group.
Ryan Cook, the head coach, and captain Scott Edwards will work with Kirsten and Christian as the Dutch get ready for their debut encounter against the UAE on October 16.
Before New Zealander Brendon McCullum was chosen for the position, Kirsten was a candidate for the position of England Test head coach. Kirsten guided India to victory at the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup and has since bolstered his resume with successful stints with South Africa and the Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League.
In addition to playing for the Proteas at the 1992 Cricket World Cup in Australia, the former South African hitter also worked with the Netherlands during their Super League series against Ireland last year, according to the ICC. The 54-year-old has previously liked his time with the Dutch camp and thinks they have a chance to shine in Australia.
In Cape Town, Kirsten remarked, "I really loved working with the Dutch Team and I look forward to joining them as a consultant in the T20 World Cup." "I was impressed with the campers' professionalism and skill level.
They are prepared and motivated to have a significant effect at the T20 World Cup.
Christian, who is 39, has played for Australia in 23 T20Is and 20 ODIs and has previously won a staggering nine domestic T20 crowns, making up for the fact that he does not yet have the same coaching credentials as Kirsten.
Christian hasn't played for his nation since he took part in a T20I match against Bangladesh in Mirpur last year, but the all-rounder has a tonne of Australian playing experience and has been assisting the Dutch team in getting acclimated to the conditions they'll probably face during those three group matches in the Victorian city of Geelong.
Christian remarked, "I've had a fantastic couple of weeks getting to know the lads, and I've been very impressed with everyone's work ethic during practise." "I want to see them succeed on the field, because they deserve it,"
