South Africa won the four-match women’s ODI series 2-1 after beating West Indies by six wickets in the fourth and final match at the Wanderers, Johannesburg. They skittled out West Indies for 174 in 49.2 overs and reached the target in 39.5 overs.
West Indies were 82/1 at one stage after Anisa Mohammed opted to bat. Deandra Dottin (36) and Kycia Knight (48) added 65 for the second wicket after Shabnim Ismail bowled Rashada Williams in the fifth over. But once Dottin fell to Ismail in the 23rd over, the West Indies kept losing wickets at regular intervals, and eventually were bowled out for a meagre total. Barring Dottin and Knight, no one could not even cross 15.
With 4-44, Ismail did the most damage for South Africa. Ayabonga Khaka and Chloe Tryon claimed two wickets apiece, while Nadine de Klerk and Tumi Sekhukhune shared the other wickets.
Coming to chase, Laura Wolvaardt (23) and Tazmin Brits (20) added 38 for the opening wicket. Andrie Steyn (52) and Sune Luus (47) then carried on the momentum, adding 88 for the third wicket before Anisa trapped Luus leg before. Two overs later, Mohammed (2-31) bowled Steyn as well, but there was little contest left at that stage.
Tryon (20*) and Mignon du Preez (6*) got the remaining 25 runs in a hurry, with 61 balls to spare.
