Scotland international George Munsey will be playing for Hampshire in the 2020 edition of the T20 Blast. The English county side announced his signing on their social media handle on Monday.
The wicketkeeper-batsman is expected to join the squad towards the latter part of this week and is also supposed to be available for the entire tournament.
Munsey has been a mainstay in Scotland’s top-order across both white-ball formats ever since he made his debut in a T20I against Ireland back in 2015.
The 27-year-old has mainly made his name in the shorter format. He has 1176 runs to his name in 45 T20I appearances for Scotland and that too, at an excellent average and strike-rate of 30.15 and 159.78 respectively.
“We’re pleased to have George with us for this summer’s Vitality Blast and he’ll add further depth and fire-power to our top-order for that competition,” Giles White, Hampshire’s Director Of Cricket, said.
“He’s had good success with Scotland at international level and has been an important part of their white-ball sides – he’s a good fit for us,” White added.
The Vitality T20 Blast kicks off on August 27 with Hampshire taking on Kent spitfires in the season opener at Canterbury.
Along with Kent, Hampshire also have Sussex Sharks, Essex Eagles, Surrey and Middlesex in their group. All of Hampshire’s matches will be played behind closed doors due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
