Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh criticised Aussie wicket-keeper Adam Gilchrist after the latter took a dig at Bhajji’s historical hattrick against Australia in Kolkata in 2001. The Indian off-spinner had etched his name in the record books when he became the first ever Indian bowler to get a Test hattrick. His victims were Ricky Ponting, Gilchrist and Shane Warne.
Gilchrist, who was his second victim, commented on Bhajji’s hattrick video on Twitter, stating that there was no Decision Review System at the time, and inserted a sad emoji next to his caption. Gilly, as he is often called, made the remark in reply to a fan, who had shared Bhajji’s hattrick video.
The replays clearly showed that Gilchrist had inside edged the ball but the umpires still adjudged him out. Bhajji, to this, lambasted Gilchrist on Twitter and asked him to stop crying over things in the past.
“U think u would have survived for long if not first ball ? Stop crying over these things mate..thought u would talk sense after ur playing days.. but few things never change u r the prime example of that. Always crying,” was the caption by Bhajji.
The topic of the hattrick came up after Jasprit Bumrah became the third Indian to get to the feat recently, in the series against West Indies. Irfan Pathan was the second Indian to get a hat-trick, when he achieved the milestone against Pakistan in 2006.
