Gujarat Titans captain Hardik Pandya has been fined Rs 12 lakh for maintaining a slow over-rate during their IPL match against Punjab Kings on April 13 at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium.
The over rate has proven to be a major issue in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, with many matches lasting nearly four hours.
"Mr. Pandya was fined Rs. 12 lakh because it was his team's first offence of the season under the IPL's Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences," the tournament said in a statement.
Previously, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain Faf du Plessis and Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson were fined the same amount for slow over rates in their respective matches against the Lucknow Super Giants and Chennai Super Kings.
In the match, opener Shubman Gill scored his second half-century of IPL 2023 with a calm 49-ball 67, while fast bowler Mohit Sharma made his tournament debut with a stellar spell of 2/18 as Gujarat defeated Punjab by six wickets.
Gujarat's win on Thursday is their third of the season, putting them in third place on the points table, while Punjab suffered their second loss of the tournament. Gujarat will play Rajasthan Royals at home on Sunday, while Punjab will play Lucknow on Saturday.
