Hardik Pandya and Prithvi Shaw are back in the mix, touring New Zealand with the India A team in early 2020. While Pandya is only present in the One Day team, Shaw will be there for both the four-day and 50-over teams.
Shubman Gill and Prithvi Shaw will open in the four-day games and will be in direct competition to be India’s Test back-up opener.
Gill is set to be the captain of India A’s one-day squad, while Test batsman Hanuma Vihari will lead a strong four-day team. With India also in New Zealand around the time, the likes of Mayank Agarwal, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane, R Ashwin and Wriddhiman Saha are all expected to be part of the second four-day game ahead of the two-Test series against New Zealand starting on February 21 in Wellington.
Pandya hasn’t played international cricket since September, and after a back surgery in London in October he is in rehabilitation. According to selector, MSK Prasad, “Hardik would be looked at in the third week of January”.
KL Rahul, the Tsst discard, isn’t part of the four-day team.
