India skipper Hardik Pandya, who was instrumental in India's third T20I victory over New Zealand, highlighted his captaincy philosophy on Wednesday, saying that he looks to keep things simple and trusts his instincts.
After scoring a crucial 30 off 17, Hardik also delivered a magical performance with the ball, becoming India's most successful bowler on the day with 4-16 as India thrashed New Zealand by 168 runs in the third T20I.
"To be honest, I always play the game in this manner (On doing things out of the box). I try to read what is required without having preconceived notions. In my captaincy, I strive to keep things simple and to trust my instincts. I follow a simple rule: if I go down, I go down on my terms "Pandya stated this during the post-match presentation.
The 29-year-old, who was named Player of the Series, attributed his success to the support staff.
"I don't mind winning (man of the series), but there were so many outstanding performances here. This Man of the Series award and trophy go to the entire support staff; I'm thrilled for them all "He stated.
When asked about the decision to bat first, the skipper recalled the IPL 2022 final, in which he led the Gujarat Titans, and stated that he wanted the decider match to be normal.
"We've talked about taking on new challenges. When we played the IPL final, we thought the second innings was more exciting, but on this surface, I wanted to keep it simple because it was a decider. As a result, we batted first. Hopefully, we can maintain this level of performance "Hardik stated.
