In a shocking turn of events, the schedule for the ICC ODI World Cup 2023, which was slated to begin on 5th October, is undergoing a major overhaul with just 70 days left for the prestigious tournament. The original schedule for the tournament hosted in India was only unveiled on 27th June, much later than the usual norms, leading to speculations and concerns among cricket fans worldwide.

The primary reason for the delay in announcing the World Cup schedule was the well-known tussle between the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). However, the situation has taken a surprising turn, with demands from multiple Full Member nations compelling the BCCI and ICC to revise the schedule.

BCCI secretary, Jay Shah, revealed that objections from "two-three" ICC Full Member nations prompted the need for changes in the World Cup schedule. Following a meeting in New Delhi with state associations hosting World Cup matches, Shah disclosed that teams with six-day gaps between matches will see reductions, while those with two-day gaps will experience increases.

While the names of the Full Member nations raising objections have not been specified, Shah assured that the revised schedule will be finalized within the next "two to three days."

The proposed changes will primarily focus on altering the dates and timings of matches, while the venues will remain unaffected, according to Jay Shah. The logistics teams of both BCCI and ICC are collaborating on the modifications to accommodate the concerns raised by certain cricket boards.

Contrary to earlier reports suggesting that the India vs. Pakistan match on 15th October in Ahmedabad would be rescheduled due to its clash with the start of Navratri, Shah clarified that hosting the match on the said date is not a problem. Instead, the changes in schedule are being driven by "logistical challenges" faced by specific cricket boards, making it difficult for teams to manage matches with minimal gaps for travel and recovery.

Due to the ongoing revision of the schedule, ticket sales for the highly-anticipated World Cup have been put on hold. However, fans can expect a joint announcement from BCCI and ICC regarding ticket availability next week, once the revised schedule is confirmed. As cricket enthusiasts eagerly await further updates, the surprising turn of events has left the cricketing world abuzz with anticipation and speculation.
