England romped over to their second successive win in the T20 World Cup. They chased down 125 set by Bangladesh with eight wickets and almost six overs to spare. Jason Roy starred with 61 after the bowlers put up a disciplined effort to restrict Bangladesh to a below-par total.
For the second time in row, Bangladesh opted to bat after winning the toss. Liton Das (9) struck two fours in the first over but fell to Moeen Ali in the third over. Moeen had Mohammad Naim (5) off the next ball, caught by Chris Woakes at mid on. Shakib Al Hasan's attempted hook was caught by Adil Rashid, reducing Bangladesh to 26/3 in the sixth over.
Early in his innings, Mushfiqur Rahim (29) was dropped by Tymal Mills on backward point. But he did not last long: he was pinned on the front leg while attempting reverse sweep Liam Livingstone. Mahmudullah (19) became Livingstone's second wicket, in the 15th over. At this point Bangladesh were on 83/6.
Nasum Ahmed struck two sixes and a four for his 9-ball 19 as Bangladesh finished on 124/9 in 20 overs. Tymal Mills (3-27) was the pick of the bowlers, while Livingstone and Moeen Ali picked two wickets each.
Jason Roy and Jos Buttler then got England off a brisk start. Buttler struck the first six of the innings, off Shakib in the third over. He was undone by Nasum on 18. Roy, meanwhile, continued with his assault, soon raced to his fifty, and eventually got 61. Dawid Malan took 25 balls for his 28, while Jonny Bairstow struck the winning boundary in the 15th over. England will now face Australia in the next game.
