Adam Zampa's immaculate bowling, followed by a terrific 65 from David Warner, helped Australia win their second successive match. They hardly broke into a stride while chasing the 155 set up by Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka got off a rollicking start despite losing an early wicket, thanks to a 63-run stand between Charith Asalanka (35) and Kusal Perera (35) for the second wicket. After two quiet overs, they were helped by ordinary bowling from Pat Cummins and Glenn Maxwell.
Cummins took a wicket in the third over but he leaked 14 in the over as Asalanka smashed two successive fours. The next over, bowled by Glenn Maxwell, went for 16. Asalanka greeted him with a six over deep mid-wicket, and followed it with a four.
Asalanka's stay came to an end in the tenth over, when he ended up picking Steven Smith at deep square leg, trying to take on Zampa. In the next over, Mitchell Starc removed Perera with a searing yorker. This opened the floodgates as Sri Lanka relinquished an early advantage.
Bhanuka Rajapaksa remained unbeaten on 33 to take Sri Lanka to 154/6. For Australia, Starc, Cummins and Zampa (4-0-12-2) claimed two wickets apiece.
In response, Warner (65) and Aaron Finch (37) were helped early in the innings by poor bowling and fielding. The fourth over, bowled by Lahiru Kumara, went for 20. Warner was dropped in the next over by Perera. The pair added 70 before Finch chopped one on to his own stumps.
Maxwell unleashed the reverse sweep early, but soon holed out to a man at the deep. Warner, meanwhile, reached his half-century. His 42-ball 65 comprised of ten fours. Marcus Stoinis finished the game in a flurry of boundaries. Australia are now at level with England, against whom they play next.
