Sri Lanka and Bangladesh will face each other in their first match of the Super 12s at Sharjah Cricket Stadium, on 24 October. Sri Lanka are coming on the back off three successive wins, while Bangladesh have lost once, against Scotland.
Sri Lanka have so far banked on their bowling to win games. Maheesh Theekshana, the leading wicket-taker, has claimed eight dismissals in three games, but will not play today due to a side strain he picked in the last game. Akila Dananjaya is likely to be the replacement.
Bangladesh, meanwhile, would expect more from their opening pair. The slow pitches of Sharjah could work in their favour. Mahedi Hasan and Shakib Al Hasan will spearhead the spin attack. Mustafizur Rahman is in terrific form, and he has already picked 24 wickets at 13.70 in 2021.
