India captain Yash Dhull and his deputy Shaik Rasheed added 204 runs for the third wicket to help their side beat Australia by 96 runs in the second semi-final of the ICC Under-19 World Cup 2022 at Coolidge Cricket Ground.

Dhull scored a run-a-ball 110, while Rasheed fell six short of hundred, as India posted 290/5 after electing to bat. Then they skittled Australia out for 194 in 41.5 overs to reach the fourth successive Under-19 World Cup final.

Australia began well, dismissing Indian openers Angkrish Raghuvanshi and Harnoor Singh cheaply inside 13 overs. But Dhull and Rasheed played out 200 balls together and struck 18 fours and two sixes between them, helping India post a challenging total. Rajvardhan Hangargekar (13), Nishant Sindhu (12*), and Dinesh Bana (20* in 4) also chipped in.

Jack Nisbet was the most impressive bowler for Australia, returning 2-41 in nine overs. William Salzmann took two wickets as well, but conceded 57. The others remained wicketless, of which Tom Whitney was the most expensive, going for over eight an over.

Despite losing Teague Wyllie in the second over, Australia got off to an excellent start. They were 71/1 in 16.2 overs, courtesy a 68-run stand between Campbell Kellaway (30) and Corey Miller (38), but slipped to 125/7 in quick time. Vicky Ostwal (3-42) and Nishant (2-25) did the most damage during this period, while Kaushal Tambe (1-32), Ravi Kumar (2-37), and Raghuvanshi (1-11) gave them support.

Lachlan Shaw then hit a 66-ball 51, and added 42 with Jack Sinfield (20) for the eighth wicket to take Australia to a respectable position. However, it was not enough to take his side past 200.

India will now face England – the other unbeaten side in the tournament – on 5 February in the final at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, North Sound.

India 290/5 in 50 overs (Yash Dhull 110; Jack Nisbet 2-41) beat Australia 194 in 41.5 overs (Lachlan Shaw 51; Vicky Ostwal 3-42) by 96 runs. Player of the Match: Yash Dhull.
