Hayley Matthews took four wickets to help West Indies defend 141 against Bangladesh in the Women's World Cup at Bay Oval. West Indies moved to third place in the points table with this four-run win.
In the ninth over, West Indies lost their first wicket, of Deandra Dottin, caught behind off Jahanara Alam. Three overs later, Nahida Akter snared Matthews. This dismissal opened the floodgates for West Indies, as they soon slumped to 62/6.
Shemaine Campbell's unbeaten 53 propelled them to 140. Salma Khatun and Akter claimed two wickets each.
Matthews then struck in the first over, trapping Sultana leg-before for a duck. Sharmin Akhter struck three fours early, but just when she looked at ease, Matthews got her caught by Dottin. Nigar Sultana hung around for 77 balls for her 25.
Akter (25*) stayed until the end, but she eventually ran out of partners. With five to score off four balls, No. 11 Fariha Trisna played on on to the stumps off Stafanie Taylor. Other than Matthews (4-15), Taylor and Afy Fletcher claimed three wickets apiece.
