New Zealand vs Bangladesh

In a rain-affected clash at the University Oval, New Zealand defeated Bangladesh by nine wickets to win their first game of the ICC ODI World Cup 2022. The match was reduced to 27 overs a side, and New Zealand chased down 141 with seven overs to spare.

Salma Khatun bowled Sophie Devine on 14, but that was the only wicket Bangladesh managed, as Suzie Bates and Amelia Kerr added an unbeaten 108 for the second wicket. Bates scored eight fours in her 68-ball 79, while Amelia made 47.

Earlier, openers Shamima Sultana and Fargana Haroque added 59 for Bangladesh. Sultana was dismissed by Frances Mackay on 32, while Haroque (52) was run out. Amy Satterthwaite then picked up three wickets in the middle overs to restrict Bangladesh to 140/8. 

Bangladesh 140/8 in 27 overs (Fargana Hoque 52; Amy Satterthwaite 3-25) lost to New Zealand 144/1 in 20 overs (Suzie Bates 79*; Salma Khatun 1-34) by 9 wickets with 42 balls to spare. Player of the Match: Suzie Bates
