The Indian team management has filed a complaint about pacer Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj getting racially abused during the Third Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground. According to multiple reports, the incidents of abuse occurred during the second and the third day of the SCG Test.
Pacer Jasprit Bumrah had earlier been spotted having a quick conversation with the team staff while standing in the outfield. At the end of day three’s play, India captain Ajinkya Rahane and a bunch of Indian senior players were seen having a conversation with the two on-field umpires Paul Reiffel and Paul Wilson, bringing to their notice of what had happened.
Following that Cricket Australia CEO Nick Hockley and Cricket Australia Head of Integrity and Security Sean Carroll were seen speaking with Indian team management after day three of the Sydney Test match after claims of racial abuse.
The umpires and the security officials then had a chat with Siraj and Bumrah for about five minutes. The India security official had a quick chat on the venue with the ground security officers, and also the ICC security official present at the SCG.
“The tour has surely turned sour and the last thing you expect in a civilized society is racial abuse. The ICC (International Cricket Council) and Cricket Australia need to be very responsive to this as the possible alternatives are not very pleasant for cricket, especially during the present circumstances. The Sydney Test has now become an acid test for CA interim CEO Nick Hockley and we are in complete solidarity with our boys. Racial abuse is unacceptable,” a BCCI official said to ANI.
