Two days after the current home T20I series against South Africa ends, on October 6, the Rohit Sharma-led Indian cricket team will depart for Australia, where they will hold a training camp in preparation for the highly anticipated T20 World Cup.
India will train in Perth till October 13 after arriving in Australia, where they are also scheduled to play an exhibition match against Western Australia. After that, they will go to Brisbane for two additional exhibition matches against Australia and New Zealand prior to the commencement of the actual competition, according to an ESPNcricinfo report.
Even with the backups, at least five members of the T20 World Cup team have never played in Australia's premier cricket league. Those five cricketers include Suryakumar Yadav, Harshal Patel (who travelled once with the U-19s in 2009), Arshdeep Singh, Deepak Hooda (who travelled once with the U-19s in 2013), and Ravi Bishnoi. So, before the big event, these games will aid in acclimating players to Australian conditions.
India is currently awaiting information regarding the eligibility of Deepak Hooda and Jasprit Bumrah. Both Bumrah and Hooda are now being treated for back problems at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru and have been ruled out of the current T20I series against South Africa.
The 28-year-old Bumrah has just recently returned for the T20Is against Australia after missing the Asia Cup 2022 due to back problems. He is currently back in the care of the NCA's medical staff, where it is thought that he had scans.
The pacer hasn't been completely ruled out of the T20 World Cup, but there are severe concerns about his participation, according to the source. It is probable that Chahar and Mohammad Shami will be called up to the main squad if injuries do prevent both Hooda and Bumrah from playing.
India are in Group 2 at the Men's T20 World Cup 2022 alongside Pakistan, Bangladesh, South Africa and two qualifiers. They will open their campaign against Pakistan at the MCG on October 23, which will be followed by matches on October 27 (vs Qualifier in Sydney), October 30 (vs South Africa in Perth), November 2 (vs Bangladesh in Adelaide) and November 6 (vs qualifier in Melbourne).
