BCCI President Sourav Ganguly announced that India Men will travel to Sri Lanka to play three ODIs and five T20Is in July this year. He said this to Vijay Lokapally in an interview with Sporstar on 9 May.
After being asked if there was a chance to organise the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 in the country, Ganguly opined: ‘No. India is supposed to go to Sri Lanka for three ODIs and five T20Is. There are lots of organisational hazards like 14-day quarantine. It can’t happen in India.’
Ganguly admitted that the BCCI had received supports from the cricketers and support staffs since last year during the bio-bubble. However, it stayed until the arrival of the second wave.
However, the BCCI National Selection Committee, headed by Chetan Sharma, has not announced their limited-overs squad for any of the series.
Ganguly was also unsure about India hosting the T20 World Cup, scheduled in October: ‘If this pandemic remains, it is going to be some task to organise any cricket.’
Meanwhile, a Virat Kohli-led India will tour England next month to play the World Test Championship (WTC) final against New Zealand, followed by five Test matches against England. If the Sri Lanka tour gets through, India will have to play two simultaneous series with different squads.
