India reached 258/4 at the close of play on Day 1 of the first Test against New Zealand at Green Park, Kanpur.
Opting to bat, India were struggling at 145/4 in 49.2 overs when Ajinkya Rahane became Kyle Jamieson's (3-47) third victim. But an unbroken 113-run stand between debutant Shreyas Iyer (75*) and Ravindra Jadeja (50*) helped India recover from there. Tim Southee took the other wicket, of Cheteshwar Pujara’s (26). Shubman Gill scored 52 before being cleaned up by Jamieson.
