South Africa Women had an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match T20I series against India Women. The hosts did manage a consolation win, but that did not lessen the dominance the tourists had throughout the series. Here are the marks out of 10 for the South Africans:
Anneke Bosch: 9 (M 3, R 68, SR 124, W 3, Econ 7.33)
As in the ODIs, Bosch did not let the absence of Dane van Niekerk be felt. With two wickets and a composed fifty, she oversaw South Africa’s win in the first match. She also got an important wicket in the second.
Ayabonga Khaka: 8 (M 2, Econ 5.63)
No wicket for Khaka, but there can be little doubt that her four-over spells tied India down, preventing them from cutting loose in both matches. She conceded 21 and 24.
Lizelle Lee: 8 (M 3, R 90, SR 129)
Lee’s dominating 70 in the second match set up the chase for her team. She looked threatening in the other matches as well before perishing early.
Lara Goodall: 8 (M 3, R 25, SR 147)
So well did South Africa bat that Goodall was not needed until the last match. There, she came out at 63/5 in the 15th over and played a breezy cameo to take South Africa to 112/7.
Nonkululeko Mlaba: 8 (M 2, W 2, Econ 6.87)
Mlaba’s numbers make excellent reading when one considers the fact that she bowled in the Powerplay overs. She got Shafali Verma in both matches.
Shabnim Ismail: 7 (M 3, W 4, Econ 8.20)
Ismail’s series figures fell apart after Verma went after her in the third match. Until then, she had figures of 8-0-45-4 in the series.
Tumi Sekhukhune: 7 (M 1, Econ 6.67)
Sekhukhune provided some sanity during the Indian onslaught in the dead-rubber match.
Laura Wolvaardt: 7 (M 3, R 62, SR 127)
An excellent unbeaten fifty under pressure for Wolvaardt to see South Africa home.
Sinalo Jafta: 6 (M 3, R 16, SR 178, C 2, S 1)
Connected a few really well during her only outing in the middle. Her keeping was efficient, but a dropped catch took the sheen off it.
Sune Luus: 6 (M 3, R 91, SR 96, Econ 9.60)
Reached 20 each time she batted but scored at better than a run a ball only once. Did not impress with ball.
Mignon du Preez: 2 (M 2, R 10, SR 125)
Ten off eight balls in her only innings.
Nadine de Klerk: 1 (M 3, W 1, Econ 9.67)
Just one wicket for de Klerk and plenty of runs. A rare off series.
Nondumiso Shangase: 1 (M 1, W 1, Econ 9)
Bowled two overs in the third T20I. Got Verma. Did not do anything else.
Faye Tunnicliffe: 0.5 (M 1, R 18, SR 51)
A forgettable appearance. Just one boundary in 35 balls, which let pressure build up on her partners.
