Kolkata Knight Riders defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore by nine wickets to kickstart their second half of the IPL 2021 with a victory. Andre Russell and Varun Chakravarthy picked three wickets each to bowl out Bangalore for 92 in 19 overs. Lockie Ferguson also chipped in two wickets. Devdutt Padikkal's 22 was the highest score of the innings.
Shubman Gill and Venkatesh Iyer then added 82 runs for the opening wicket to take the sting out of the contest. Gill fell two runs short of a well-deserved half-century. Iyer remained unbeaten on 41 to drive the team across the fifnishing line.
The victory has propelled Kolkata to the fifth position. They have now three victories and five defeats from the first eight games. Just above them, at No. 4, are Mumbai Indians, who have won four matches and lost as many.
Chennai Super Kings is at the top of the points table, followed by Delhi Capitals at the second position. Bot sides have won six and lost two matches.
