There are 94 overseas players who have been shortlisted to go under the hammer in IPL 2020 Auction on December 19. While most of them are familiar faces, some of them are not that well known and, as a result, their abilities could be used as mystery weapons as well. So let’s take a look at three such players whom the franchises could be interested in buying.
Daniel Sams
Country: Australia
Role: Seam-bowling all-rounder
Base Price: INR 20 Lakhs
Sams is a left-arm seam-bowling all-rounder who is a hard-hitting lower-order batsman as well. He is playing for Sydney Thunder in the Big Bash League since last season and has been quite successful in the all-round role for them. Sams has played 20 T20s so far and has taken 22 wickets at an excellent strike-rate of 15.9. He has good variations and can bowl excellent yorkers in the death overs as well. With the bat, he has 176 runs to his name at a good strike-rate of 135.38. These runs include the best score of 42 as well.
Pat Brown
Country: England
Role: Right-arm pace bowler
Base Price: INR 50 Lakhs
The 21-year-old is a seasoned T20 bowler now having already featured in two T20 Blast seasons. Brown has consistently delivered in the death overs for his side Worcestershire in the last two seasons. He was also among the top 10 wicket takers in T20 Blast 2019 as he claimed 17 wickets at a strike-rate of 18.2. Overall, Brown has taken 52 wickets in 40 T20s at an even better strike-rate of 15.1.
Matthew Kelly
Country: Australia
Role: Right-arm pace bowler
Base Price: INR 20 Lakhs
The 25-year-old Australian pacer is an excellent T20 bowler once again. His main strength is the bounce he extracts off the surface due to his height and high release point. Kelly bowls at express pace too and thus the combination of pace and bounce makes him a tricky customer for batsmen to handle. He has played for the Perth Scorchers in the Big Bash League and was also hired by the Kolkata Knight Riders last season as an injury replacement. But he has been released this season. Overall, Kelly has taken 19 wickets in 12 T20s at an excellent strike-rate and a decent economy rate of 14.5 and 7.83 respectively.
