Delhi Capitals (DC) defeated defending champion Mumbai Indians (MI) by six wickets to register their third victory of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The victory propelled them to the second position in the points table.
Chasing 138 on a sluggish surface, the DC batters adopted a measured approach and relied heavily on singles and doubles to chip away the target. Lalit Yadav and Shimron Hetmyer provided them with a finishing touch as DC chased down the target with five balls to spare.
Earlier in the match, Amit Mishra picked up four wickets to restrict MI to a below-par total of 137/9.
Old is gold. Amit Mishra proving why he is the second highest wicket taker in the history of IPL with an incredible spell and @DelhiCapitals showing it is possible to chase in Chennai by being sensible.#MIvsDC #IPL2021 pic.twitter.com/aZoEXUMhp9

DC had lost all their last four games against MI. IPL 2021 started on a better note for the Capitals.
Mumbai at one stage 67/2 in 7 overs would feel they atleast got twenty runs less. The @DelhiCapitals showing enough character to come out this year and win their first game vs #MI after having lost all the 4 games against them in 2020 #MIvDC

Shikhar Dhawan’s 42-ball 45 built a solid foundation for the Capitals.
Congrats @DelhiCapitals for winning this game.shikhar once again playing a crucial role. Avesh Khan has come good for them too.

Delhi Capitals did well to adapt themselves to the slow, sluggish condition of Chennai.
Outstanding, sensible run-chase from @DelhiCapitals. To adjust to the conditions so quickly after playing in Mumbai is admirable.
