Match 23 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 saw Chennai Super Kings (CSK) register their fifth victory on the trot as they defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by seven wickets and with nine balls to spare at Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.
Chasing 172 to win, Faf du Plessis and Ruturaj Gaikwad added 129 runs for the opening wicket to take the sting out of the contest. They toyed with SRH bowlers and hit boundaries at will. Earlier in the evening, David Warner and Manish Pandey scored half-centuries before a late cameo from Kane Williamson pushed SRH total to 171/3 in 20 overs.
Orange Cap
Du Plessis’ 38-ball 56 has earned him the Orange Cap for the first time in IPL 2021. He replaced Shikhar Dhawan of the Delhi Capitals. Du Plessis has now amassed 270 runs in six matches with the help of three half-centuries. Warner made 57 off 55 deliveries, and he sits at eighth in the list. With 192 runs in six innings, Gaikwad finds himself just below Warner.
