The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed that the matches in the Indian Premier League 2022 will witness 25 per cent of the crowd capacity across four venues in Maharashtra.
'The matches will be played across stadiums in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai & Pune with an audience occupancy rate of 25% as per Covid-19 protocols,' the release added.
With the inclusion of two new teams – Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans – the league stage will now have 70 matches. These include 20 games in each of Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai and DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai, and 15 apiece at MCA International Stadium in Pune and Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai. The venues for the Playoffs will be announced soon.
Chennai Super Kings will take on Kolkata Knight Riders at Wankhede Stadium, on 26 March, to kickstart IPL 15.
'This match will be a momentous occasion as the 15th edition of the IPL will welcome fans back to the stadiums after a brief hiatus owing to the pandemic,' an IPL release added.
