Jason Roy has withdrawn his name from the Indian Premier League 2022 owing to the strict bio-bubble environment. Roy was acquired by the new franchise Gujarat Titans at a base price of INR 2 Crore in the mega-auction. The Titans will soon announce a replacement.
Roy played for Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2021. In 2020, he pulled out of the tournament after being picked by Delhi Capitals for INR 1.5 crores. He has so far played 13 matches, amassing 329 runs at a strike rate of 129.
Roy played six matches for Quetta Gladiators in the Pakistan Super League 2022. His 57-ball 116 against Lahore Qalandars was the highest individual score of the season.
Gujarat Titans have named Hardik Pandya as the captain. They have bought the likes of Ravi Bishnoi, Shubman Gill, Matthew Wade, and Dominic Drakes, among others. With Roy pulling out, Wade and Gill can be the potential openers.
The IPL 2022 will begin on 26 March. The 70 league matches will be played across four venues in Maharashtra, while the venues for the Playoffs are yet to be decided.
