Mark Wood has been ruled out of the Indian Premier League 2022 due to an elbow injury he sustained during the first Test match against West Indies. Wood managed to bowl only five overs on Day 3 before being forced to leave the field.
Wood was bought by Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL mega auction for INR 7.5 crores. This would have been his second season in the league, having earlier played for Chennai Super Kings in 2018.
The Super Giants are yet to announce a replacement. Wood was excited to feature in the tournament. It would have been a reunion with his England Lions' coach Andy Flower.
'As soon as the final amount was confirmed Sarah asked what it was in pounds – I might have to freeze all our accounts so it doesn’t disappear," he had told The Guardian. 'But we’re delighted. It’s a weird experience. It feels like a computer game – almost not real, like transfers on Football Manager – but it’s also very real when you get signed.'
The England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) will release the detailed report of Wood's injury soon. He was also aiming to nail a slot for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup in Australia. A good outing in the IPL would have surely strengthened his case.
