Sunrisers Hyderabad thrashed Royal Challengers Bangalore by nine wickets in Match 36 of Indian Premier League 2022, at Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. Hyderabad bowled out Bangalore for 68 before chasing it down with 12 overs remaining.
Bangalore never recovered from early setbacks inflicted by Marco Jansen (3-25), who struck thrice in his first over to leave them reeling at 8/3. As many as eight batters got out without reaching double figures.
Royal Challengers Bangalore 68/10 in 16.1 overs
Expecting an in-swinger, Faf du Plessis shuffled towards the leg-side, but Jansen deceived him with a pitched-up ball with a hint of outward movement to knock his off stump. He induced the outside edge with the next ball, sending Virat Kohli back for his second consecutive golden duck. He signed off his first over with a wicket off Anuj Rawat, caught by Aiden Markram at second slip.
At 8/3, the onus once again shifted to the middle order. T. Natarajan (3-10) provided a massive blow by getting rid off Glenn Maxwell in his first over. For once, Dinesh Karthik failed as well, falling to J. Suchith for a duck.
Natarajan crushed any hopes of lower-order revival by dismissing Harshal Patel and Wanindu Hasaranga. Maxwell (12) and Suyash Prabhudessai (15) were the only two batters go past 10, while there were 12 extras.
Sunrisers Hyderabad 72/1 in 8 overs
Hyderabad chased down the target in just 12 overs to give themselves a massive boost in net run rate. After two quiet overs, Abhishek Sharma smacked three fours off Mohammed Siraj in the third over, and welcomed Harshal with two fours. He finally fell for a 28-ball 47.
Rahul Tripathi slammed the winning six to push Hyderabad to second place in the points table. They will now face Chennai Super Kings, on 27 April.
