Kolkata Knight Riders beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by 54 runs in Match 61 of Indian Premier League 2022 at the MCA Stadium in Pune. Andre Russell starred with an explosive cameo before picking up three wickets to derail Hyderabad's chase.
Kolkata Knight Riders 177/6 in 20 overs
After Marco Jansen bowled Venkatesh Iyer early. Nitish Rana slammed 26 in 16 balls with three sixes. Ajinkya Rahane hit three sixes as well but was unable to pierce the gap, and managed only 28 runs off 25 balls. Umran Malik claimed both Rahane and Rana as well as Shreyas Iyer to leave Kolkata reeling at 83/4.
T. Natarajan pinned Rinku Singh leg before. Rinku wanted to review the decision, but ran out of time. Russell then single-handedly lifted Kolkata to a fighting total. During his 28-ball stay, Russell smoked four sixes and three fours to take Kolkata to 177/6.
Sunrisers Hyderabad 123/8 in 20 overs
Kane Williamson again failed to get going in the Powerplay, taking 17 balls for nine runs before Russell bowled him. Rahul Tripathi gave an easy return catch to Tim Southee in the ninth over. Abhishek Sharma, meanwhile, held the fort and raced his way to 43 in 27 balls before Varun Chakravarthy bowled him.
After Abhishek's dismissal, Aiden Markram was the only batter to offer some resistance, with a 25-ball 32. Nicholas Pooran and Washington Sundar both fell cheaply, and the Sunrisers could only manage 123/8.
