After starting edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 with defeats, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will lock horns in Match 7 of the competition at the Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai on Thursday, eyeing their first triumph of the season. Asked to bat after losing the toss, both LSG and CSK faced top-order collapses at Wankhede.
Moeen Ali, quarantined for the tournament opener, will return to the Chennai XI. His presence at No. 3 will boost their top-order. The 'Yellow Brigade' will also hope the likes of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway to see off the initial burst of the Lucknow pacers.
For Lucknow, Jason Holder is still not available and there is no official word on Andrew Tye. If neither plays, they may yet again opt for three overseas players. However, at a small ground like Brabourne, with dew being a threat, LSK will want to have one of those two in the XI to tame the power-packed batting line-up of the defending champions.
The LSG batting is dependent on their top-three – K.L. Rahul, Quinton de Kock, and Evin Lewis. In the middle, Deepak Hooda and Ayush Badoni showed promise against Gujarat Titans. Hence, if the top order starts scoring, this Lucknow line-up will be quite handy on these evenly paced batting tracks.
