Chennai Super Kings have appointed Ravindra Jadeja as their new captain ahead of Indian Premier League 2022. Jadeja has been with the Super Kings since 2012. He will succeed M.S. Dhoni as captain. With Dhoni at the helm, Chennai have won the title on four occasions, finished runners-up five times, and have made it to the top four every time with the exception of 2020. He will continue to play.
Defending champions Chennai will take on Kolkata Knight Riders in the season-opener on 26 March, at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Jadeja, who recently reclaimed No. 1 spot in the ICC Men's all-rounder rankings in Test cricket, will become the third cricketer to captain Chennai, after Dhoni and, in Dhoni's absence, Suresh Raina.
'MS Dhoni has decided to hand over the leadership of Chennai Super Kings and picked Ravindra Jadeja to lead the team. Jadeja, who has been an integral part of Chennai Super Kings since 2012, will only be the third player to lead CSK. Dhoni will continue to represent Chennai Super Kings this season and beyond,' read a statement from CSK.
