All eight existing franchises have submitted their final list of retained players for the Indian Premier League 2022. As per the rules, franchises were allowed to retain a maximum of four players. The two new franchises – of Ahmedabad and Lucknow – can now select up to three players from the talent pool available.
Here is a the player-retention list for all franchise:
Delhi Capitals
Players retained: Rishabh Pant, Prithvi Shaw, Axar Patel, Anrich Nortje
Delhi are one of the three franchises to retain four players. As per ESPNCricinfo, they have released former captain Shreyas Iyer, Shikhar Dhawan and Kagiso Rabada.
Chennai Super Kings
Players retained: Ravindra Jadeja, M.S. Dhoni, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Moeen Ali
For Chennai, retaining Dhoni and Jadeja were straightforward decisions. For the remaining slots, they have retained Ruturaj Gaikwad and Moeen Ali. Gaikwad was instrumental in CSK's triumph, while Moeen also played his part with both bat and ball. To maximise Moeen's prowess against spin, he was deployed in the middle-order, and did his job to perfection.
Mumbai Indians
Players retained: Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah
As per ESPNCricinfo, Mumbai have retained only Rohit and Bumrah. As per some reports, the Pandya brothers – Krunal and Hardik – are likely to join Ahmedabad.
Royal Challengers Bangalore
Players retained: Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell, Mohammed Siraj
The retirement of A.B de Villiers has made things simpler for the RCB. Kohli, Siraj and Maxwell are the three players to be retained by the franchise.
Rajasthan Royals
Player retained: Sanju Samson
Rajasthan Royals have retained only Samson for the next edition of the Indian Premier League.
Kolkata Knight Riders
Player retained: Sunil Narine, Andre Russell, Varun Chakravarthy, Venkatesh Iyer
Narine, Russell, Chakravarthy, and Iyer are the four names to be retained by Kolkata. There was no place for Eoin Morgan, under whose captaincy the franchise reached the final of the IPL 2021.
Sunrisers Hyderabad
Player retained: Kane Williamson
In a shocking move, Sunrisers Hyderabad have released Rashid Khan, as reported by ESPNCricinfo. There was no place for David Warner either, as they retained only Williamson for the upcoming season.
Punjab Kings
There's not much information about the retention list of Punjab Kings as of now.
