South African all-rounder Aiden Markram has been appointed as the new captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad for the upcoming 2023 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), which starts on March 31.
The Hyderabad-based franchise announced Markram's appointment on Twitter, sharing a video with the caption: "THE. WAIT. IS. OVER. #OrangeArmy, say hello to our new captain Aiden Markram."
Markram will succeed Kane Williamson, who was released by the team at the end of last season and went on to join defending champions Gujarat Titans during the 2023 auction.
Markram's leadership skills were on full display when he led the Sunrisers Eastern Cape team to win the inaugural SA20 title. He was also named Player of the Series for his impressive all-round performance, scoring 365 runs and taking 11 wickets in the tournament.
The 28-year-old had a successful IPL season last year, scoring 381 runs at an average of 47.63 with three half-centuries. With his experience and form, Markram will be expected to lead Sunrisers Hyderabad to greater heights in the upcoming IPL season.
